The Goth Bible A Compendium For The Darkly Inclined

By Nancy Kilpatrick

An artistic culture that revels in the Victorian romantic movement, The goth Bible brings to light the traditions and history of all that is goth. The goth culture has been one of the most controversial and maligned in media history. Presented as homicidal, suicidal and socio-pathic, in the national consciousness goths are coupled with everyone from Marilyn Mason to the murderers of Columbine. But this is not who the goths are. The goth Bible will help bridge the understanding between goths and non-goths.

From their historical origins as a Germanic tribe in the sixth century who fought along side the Romans against the Huns to their current incarnation as creatures of the night, The goth Bible presents the most complete and broad perspective of this society, culled from hundreds of interviews with bands, artist, designers, and goths from all walks of life.

Vids Clip: Lacuna Coil-Our Truth

Lacuna Coil is one of the gothic band and they're from Italy. Lurve this song...Hope ya enjoy.

Meet Kristina..

Her name is Kristina and she's from New York. She's only 16 but I think that she is unique in her own way.And this is a little info about her...

She's a big fan of black clothing but she don't wear it all the time. She personally don't believe that being gothic consists of the typical "gothic like" things. She said that, you don't have to wear black, have insane dark makeup, and hate the world. It's all about the inside.

She's a really fucked up individual who finds hilarity within one's pain. She love blood, gore and psychopathy. Thats the thing that makes her different than most.

She for the most part, don't label herself as "gothic", she just clearly in the "fucked up" section. She mention that her mom understands her and doesn't mind about herself acting in that way. And so does her dad. They think that it's a stage in life, but she knows that it's not.

Last but not least,as for music, anything is really good. She just really really really love marilyn manson.

In this era, there are many gothic metal band moved towards mainstream for example groups such as Entwine, Lacuna Coil, My Dying Bride,Anathema and Poisonblack and they have succeeded in their music. The music of gothic metal is generally related to the dark images. The meaning of dark here is this kind of music are always describe the depressing, deep, romantic and intense.Gothic metal has also been described as "a combination of the darkness and melancholy of goth rock with heavy metal.Allmusic defines the genre as a fusion of "the bleak, icy atmospherics of goth rock with the loud guitars and aggression of heavy metal" and further notes that "true goth metal is always directly influenced by goth rock - ethereal synths and spooky textures are just as important as guitar riffs, if not moreso". Gothic music is varied with the band pursuing many different directions from slow to harder type of music. You are pleased with the music by the group H.I.M but you aren't feel the same way when you're listen to Cradle of Filth. There is many diverse range of vocal styles in gothic metal.Male singers in the genre range from the guttural growls and black metal shrieks of Dani Filth and Morten Veland to the clean counter-tenor vocals of Osten Bergoy and the bass range of Peter Steele. For My Dying Bride, the subjects of "death and misery and lost love and romance" has been approached repeatedly from different angles. The common gothic theme of lost love is a subject that has been tackled by such gothic metal bands as Theatre of Tragedyand Leaves' Eyes.Lyrics based on personal experiences is another common feature of many gothic metal bands such as Anathema, Elis, Tiamat, Midnattsol and The Old Dead Tree. Graveworm moved away from fantasy stories in favor of personal lyrics after finding them more suitable for their style of music. The lyrics of fellow Italians Lacuna Coil also do not feature any "fantasy stuff or something that you cannot find in reality" as their co-vocalist Cristina Scabbia finds it desirable that people can relate themselves to her band's lyrics. Similarly, the band Lullacry features lyrics on the subjects of "love, hate, passion and pain" because a person "can easily connect to a song" with lyrics "about human relationships".

INFO about Amy's Ashes

Amy’s Ashes, formed in late 2007 in Uppsala Sweden, was essentially guitarists Aliz’ and Eric’s dorm room baby until the duo realized that something needed to happen - it had to be something new and big! Dark Funeral) and bassist Gus (Defleshed) to complete the line-up, led by Aram (The Mist of Avalon) on vocals. In March of 2008 Amy’s Ashes entered the studio to debut their sound – a glitzy mix of gothic tendencies and fashionably crunchy modern rock. The self-released EP, produced by Örjan Örnkloo (In Flames), gained immediate success amongst fans and alternative press. The band was soon signed by Mama Trash Promotions and was reached by an international audience, resulting in a spot at the 2009 Finnish Trash Fest II. Airtime in American, English, French and Finnish alternative radio along with various interviews, the band was approached to be a part of the compilation album “In trash we trust”, released in the US.Shortly after the EP was released the guys were approached by several labels, but unsatisfied with the conditions offered; writing new songs, playing gigs and building a buzz felt more important than anything offered prior to this day.Amy’s Ashes are currently working together with the renowned producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad) on a single from the forthcoming debut album. The single, followed by a music video will be released later in 2009. Japanese Gothic

There are so many ways to express yourself. Like in Japan, the fashion is so incredibly loud they manage to say something without saying a word. It shows that there's always some way to express yourself.

GOTHIC Makeover

Many wants to become a gothic but don't know how? Always became a follower and don't have your own style. The question now, are you a true goth? Is not, try this steps and see the different.

HAIR
Black is the right color for goth. For goth girl, long and straight black hair is kinda trademark. But if you have a high forehead, making a fringe is a better idea. It makes you appear different and mysterious. If it something cliche, do color your hair with the unexpected color. It can make people hard not to notice you. For guy who have a long hair, you can choose to color your hair red on the tip or even do highlights. For the short hair guys, applying wax can gives a great texture to your hair.

MAKE UP
Dirty, smouldering eyes are the way to go to achieve the fiendish look.Start with applying a black colored liner and continue with the coating of a black shadow on the lids as a base. Then apply a creamy black eye shadow. Don't have one? Try this trick: Mix Vaseline with the black eyeshadow to create the glossy effect. Then, dab the color by using the finger tips. Top off with load and load of mascara. For dramatic goth look, apply red-hot lipstick. Use a lipliner in the closest shade to the lipstick. Draw along your lipline and inward. Top off your lipstick with lipgloss to make your lips appear fuller. And those who's a little bit redundant, you can apply a black or dark purple lipstick. For girl, you can apply a radiant red blusher to bring focus to your cheeks. To completed your maximum gothic look, then apply a black colored nail polish.

CLOTHES AND SHOES
The fully gothic clothing is quite expensive but for truly gothic this is not a matter. You can order this cloth by online for instance www.gothicwish.com or you can find a gothic shop at your shop at your place, sure they got one. For those who under budget, running shot of cash doesn't mean that you have to abandon to being goth. You can always mix and match your cloths. If you kinda lost idea, try to find something in the flea market. Shoes? Try high cut boot. Its definitely perfect for your outfits.

ACCESSORIES
You're not a complete gothic if you not wearing any gothic accessories. From skull chain, spiky choker, bangle, stripes socks, dark angel wings and roses, its all perfect for you to choose. Make sure you know how to match this things because it adds a character to the person wearing it.

TATTOOS
In addition to the gothic transformation, you can make a tattoo. For you who's planning to get one, this is the simple tips for you. Be very sure about the tattoo that you planning to get because it last for a lifetime and seeks advice before you get it. Go to the licensed and reputable tattoo studio. Take extra care to preserve the color of your tattoo by using sunscreen and body lotion regulary.
